It’s a new school year and although university and college is the time to get to know your professors, pay attention in class and excel academically, it is also a great time to create new memories and experience new adventures. Let’s be honest, for many of us the location of the school is just as important as the school itself. Not many people want to attend a school in a town with 1,000 residents and the only form of entertainment is strawberry picking, no matter how good the school is. For all of you who are new to Durham and those who live here, sometimes it’s hard to find interesting places to go, so here are 10 relatively cool places that do not suck in Oshawa & Durham Region.

The Robert McLaughlin Gallery (Oshawa)

Do you like art? History? Then you might want to check out the Robert McLaughlin Gallery. It is the largest public art gallery in Durham Region. There are also really cool events and exhibitions that happen in the gallery!

iFLY Indoor Skydiving (Whitby)

Have you ever wanted to skydive but you’re not quite at Will Smith level? iFLY is an indoor skydiving wind tunnel for some simulation diving… emphasis on indoor. It’s definitely a memorable experience.

The Pickering Markets (Pickering)

Listen, I don’t care who you are, everyone appreciates a good deal. The Pickering Market is a massive flea market that has everything you can ever imagine. It’s also really cool to see so many people in such a loud and colourful space with different food, clothes, products and deals!

Cineplex Odeon (Oshawa & Ajax)

One thing that every Durham resident is well acquainted with is the movies!  There are tons of movie theatres in Durham. But, Ajax Odeon is the cheapest I have been to, especially on half price Tuesday… ouu … need I say more? You can see a movie for a reasonable price at a really nice theatre.

SkyZone Trampoline Park (Whitby)

If you like hopping and bouncing around on trampolines and having a nice workout without even realizing it, check out SkyZone! You can even play trampoline dodgeball, maybe we should have a tournament?

Pickering Harbourfront (Pickering)

Pickering Harbour Front is like a whole new town! It has that small town, quaint, 60’s vibe alongside a water park, beautiful scenery, overlooking beautiful lake ontario and nice lake houses. It’s a chill spot to hang with your friends and family, I personally like it!

Neb’s Fun World (Oshawa)

Bowling is always fun and Nebs is always the best. There are some arcade games and prices that big kids can also enjoy and the food is oily and blessed by the fatty food gods! Honestly, just for nice arcade games and fun with food, it’s pretty lit.

Treetop Eco-Adventure Park (Oshawa)

Ropes courses, zip-lining, axe-throwing & combat archery in a leafy outdoor setting. It’s something different to explore and right here in Oshawa!

Putting Edge (Whitby)

Putting edge is a glow in the dark massive golf course that takes you through a maze of different difficult courses. It’s a fun time and it’s cool when you have a race with your friends. It’s definitely a vibe.

In all, your college and university experience is what you make of it. You are in the right place, the right school and definitely the right residence. Your experience is yours to illustrate and I think you are going to have a great time here! Cheers to a successful academic year and to relatively cool places in Durham!
